Topic: We need more Nigerians with digital Technical Skills, we need to build more Tech products like the likes of PayStacks and Flutterwaves. We need more creators and Innovators in Technology
Intro: Technology is one of the only sectors in Nigeria with under-employment, we need more people with Skills.
Aspirehub Reps:

Blessing Nwonu: A Master’s graduate of pure and applied mathematics with a research interest in Quantum Artificial Intelligence

1. What exactly are Digital Tech Skills and their importance?
Maureen: First of all let’s define Digital literacy, Digital Literacy according to Cornell University is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share, and create content using information technology and the internet.
By this definition, Digital Skills are those skills required to become digitally literate. These skills range from the ability to navigate through the internet to coding a website from scratch.
Top digital Tech skills in 2021 include but are not limited to digital marketing, coding, business data analytics, cloud, Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, mobile development, and Drone Piloting …
We have real-life applications in***… (Definition, list examples, talk about AI, DS, Animation, Real-life Applications, Drone Mapping)
2. What is the position of Nigeria in Africa Technology?
Blessing: Nigeria has a vibrant and growing tech sector. Several large tech companies have emerged over the past few years, attracting international attention and funding. Talk about the likes of Jumia, Paystack, Flutterwave, Jobberman, Andela, and so on, Nigeria’s tech sector has often found creative solutions to fill gaps left by the state, they used tech to solve the Africa problem the Africa way. In fact, I will like to put it this way, Nigeria has become the unofficial tech capital of Africa.
But even at this level, Technology is still one of the only sectors in Nigeria with under-employment, and this is because we still lack people with these skills. We need more people with these skills.
3. How do we mitigate this problem?
Blessing: First of all, I would like to address one of the root causes of this problem: the lack of early exposure to technology and the importance of digital skills. This stems from the lack of technology-related subjects in the Nigerian education system, presently, the system only focuses on how to use modern technologies, and not how to create them. A solution to this would be the introduction of technology-related subjects as a core curriculum in high school, would expose students to technology at a very young age, and arouse their interest in the creation of innovation in Tech –
We the adults also need to understand the need to incorporate tech skills into our respective fields.
So this is the gap the Aspirehub Tech Academy aims to bridge, our goal is to equip both the young and the old, that is the technology natives and immigrants with the required tools to create tech innovations.
We run two programs, one for the pre-teens and Teens, with an age range from 8-18, and it is done during the holidays, mainly summer, and the other is the Professional Digital Skills up training, where you pick a Digital skill of your choice and our professional instructors would train you into becoming experts in your chosen field.
